Last week for 2010

Thanks to all the families who attended our final assembly in the town hall- it was spectacular!!! Congratulations to our Triple E recipients - Alex OH and Merekara Below-Patara. Thank you to all the parent helpers throughout the year - your support is appreciated!! I look forward to seeing everyone continue their next steps next year.

Trip to Island Bay Marine Centre

On Wednesday, we travelled to Island Bay Marine Centre. We had an amazing time!! Here is some of our pictures. Many thanks to our parent helpers - Bridgette Banner, Sam Iasona, Rachel Paku and Kara Smith - without their help we could not have gone on the trip.

Pet Day!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed making and creating our displays for Pet Day. It was great to see all the families that came along to support us - Thank You.

Week Two Term Four

Week Two has been busy with our students only having a half day on Tuesday. Sorry, for the inconvenience- union disruptions are never easy for all concerned.

Thursday - we had the excitement of travelling by bus to Arotoi to the combined schools art show. We got some great ideas for our own art.

Week One - Term 4

It was great to see everyone back and ready for learning for term 4.

We started investigating our new topic - Sea,Sand and Shore. So far we have been brainstorming things that we know about our topic and have looked at lots of books we received from the National Library. During week four, we have a trip planned to visit the beach so we are looking forward to investigating our topic further.

Currently, Room 19 is preparing for our next whole school assembly - Thursday 28th, which we are hosting.

Lots of exciting things are planned during term 4 - make sure you read our school newsletter for regular updates.

Week Nine

Week Eight

Thank you to Annie - our head girl. Annie came in and was an awesome help during our busy ICT lesson, and she was able to assist many students with their publishing. This week during ICT we used our net books for the first time. This was very exciting. Also, this week everyone in our whole school recieved two duffy book each!! We are so lucky to be a duffy book school!!

This weeks awards went to Aggie - Welcome to Lakeview School, and Lexus for always showing respect during learning time.

Week Seven

We have had an exciting week!!!

We made our sock puppets and they look amazing! We also had the opportunity of seeing a visiting story teller - Zebong. Mrs W had to play an old lady, Ariaan was a snakes tail, Noah played a boy living in a castle and Joshua played a policeman - we had lot of fun.

On Friday, our whole school removed our Pou from the front of the office with a special Hiki Tapu ceremony. Briarna represented Room 19 in bring in the Pou. The singing was fantastic.

Next week, we are looking at writing descriptions.

Week Five

This week for writing we have been focusing on writing procedures, and to support our learning we have made jelly and volcanoes. This was a lot of fun. We also had our school photos and we all looked well presented - Mrs W was very proud!

Hope you all managed to enjoy our school Hangi fundraiser - It was super yummy!

Looking ahead to next week we are making sock puppets for our writing procedure - everyone will need a sock.

Parent Teacher Interviews

I would like to thank all the parents who attended Parent Teacher Interviews this week. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing your child's progress with you. It means a great deal to your child. I get alot pleasure from seeing their faces when I mention how I spoke to you all and what neat parents they have. Keep up the amazing support - it makes a difference!!

Week Three Term Three

We had a wonderful visit on Tuesday by Constable Chopper who read us a great story about Kaipai the Kiwi. There was a great message in the story about how Kaipai was a little reluctant to try new things but with a little help from some friends he ended up playing rugby and liked it. We look forward to our next visit from our local police to read to our children. It is great to see them in school on a friendly note, and also so children can see police officers are real people who are there to support our community.

Also, on Tuesday we had Wairarapa Bush Rugby come into school and take us for Ripper Rugby. Room 19 had a lot of fun - Thanks Wairarapa Bush Rugby.

I can't believe that it is nearly week four already - please remember to make an appointment to see me for parent/teacher interviews Wednesday 11th August and Thursday 12th August.

Week Two Term Three

We have had a great start to the term. We all thoroughly enjoyed watching our seniors in the school concert, and everyone in room 19 all have the desire to be just like our talented seniors.

It was also Maori Language week and we loved our shared lunch on Friday with the whole school.

I hope everyone received our class newsletter - if not we do have spares in the classroom. Also, this week parent/teacher interview forms went home so please make an appointment as I am looking forward to sharing your child's learning with you.

Teacher only day is Monday - this is so all teachers can gain a better understanding of National Standards.

The rest of next week has an exciting programme with the police coming in to read us stories and ripper rugby on Wednesday.

100 Celebration

This week we celebrated 100 days at school. We had a lovely party with bubbles and created our 100 poster with a 100 fingers in rainbow colours. We also created our In the holidays recount, and attached a picture we made from revelation art. We then had to cut and stick the picture with our story on to card for display. Make sure you come and visit our work.

Getting Ready for Term 3

Mrs W is getting ready for Monday. I can't wait to see you and catch up on what you all have been doing in the holidays. I have had a great break and now ready for term 3. We have a lot planned!!

Whack a Rat

During the last week of term we took part in raising some money for Pukaha Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre. Take a look at our kiwi!! Also, as a surprise we had a visit from a ranger from Pukaha and he showed us how they catch rodents in all different types of traps. It was a lot of fun.

Week 10

We are now getting very good at writing letters, and this week we designed our own postcards. Our unit for maths this week has been shapes, and we have been making shape pictures, and triangle fish and identifying shapes in flags. We also watched the seniors go for their polar swim - that looked cold!!! The term is now coming to end and we are all feeling tired and looking forward to our well earned rest. It has been an actioned packed term. Parents, there is a lot of colds and coughs around so please keep children home if they are unwell.

Week 9

Wow, our mailbox has been over flowing with letters in Room 19. Everyone enjoys writing letters to each other and posting them in our mailbox. We also enjoyed Ripper Rugby this week - it was a lot of fun. In ICT this week, we typed two sentences on the computer. Also, on Monday we ran the Syndicate assembly - we sang like angels. All parents are welcome to come to our assemblies and we would love to see you there.

Cross Country News

Room 19 were outstanding in cross country with five of our class mates gaining a placing.

Noah came first in year one boys. Hayden coming first in year two boys. Merekara, Briarna and Jackson all gaining a placing. YaHoo!!! Well Done Room 19.

Week Six

Our school art exchange was a lot of fun. We enjoyed everything from weaving, clay and creating Maori art.

This week we also learnt about measurement - Height- Mrs W measured everyone in the class - Hayden is the tallest boy and Ariaan is the tallest girl.

Cross Country is planned for Wednesday the 2nd of June - come along.

Week Five

This week's award went to Elyse Paku-Kerr for the pride she takes in her work. Elyse is always committed to doing her busy regardless of the topic. - Well Done Elyse!

The junior syndicate is practicing hard for the up-coming cross country event on the 2nd June. We are started running around the field twice but now running from the gates of Henley Lake.

Thank you to all the parents who have purchased new story writing and handwriting books especially as so many of us are requiring our new books to complete work.

Art exchange is on Friday the 28th - this is a fun day where children will be mixed with a range of ages to share in a art experience. Ask you children on Friday about their art exhange day.

Week Four

This week's class achiever was Chloe for improvement in her writing. Well Done, Chloe!

We have also started our preparation for cross country where everyone has been running around the field twice.

We are currently enjoying participating in folk dancing every Tuesday afternoon. It is a lot of fun!!

Room 19 went to Mrs T's room on Thursday where they learnt how to play twinkle twinkle little star on a xylophone. Mrs T said that Room 19 was very well behaved and a pleasure to have in her class. We love hearing the good things we do.

We have another exciting week ahead with learning how to write our own narratives.

Our Big Buddies

Every Friday, our big buddies from room one come and test our spelling that we have been learning all week, and they then listen to us read. Our big buddies are so much fun as they always tell us that we are great learners.

Autumn in the Park

Week Two

Week Two was an eventful week with our trip to Queen Elizabeth Park where we rolled in the autumn leaves and played in our wonderful local park - Photos coming - keep a look out for them. Then Friday was the school disco where we had a lot of fun getting dressed up and dancing to our favourite music.

For week three we are looking forward to investigating our traditional tale - Jack and the Beanstalk in our writing and art.

Welcome Back to Term Two

We have had a fantastic week one with everyone excited to get back into learning. What a fun term we have planned; PE we are focusing on folk dancing and preparation for cross country, and our theme is traditional tales - starting with The gingerbread man, and for maths with be investigating addition and subtraction along with measurement. So many of the class have signed up for a winter sport so I look forward to hearing about their teams and how they are doing.

On Friday 30th, we have a school disco.

Congratulations, to Joshua Starky who was this weeks award winner for focusing on his learning time and creating a fabulous story about The gingerbread man.

Happy Birthday, Noah, who turns six on the 25th April.

Henley Lake

This week we have spent the time investigating Henley Lake. We have visited Henley Lake and made model boats. We have also had the model boats visit us in our school pool. Watch out for the photos.

Class Certificate Recipient

Congratulations to Alex for being awarded the class certificate in last week's assembly. Alex received the award for being an honest student. Well done Alex, you are an excellent role model for others to follow!

Homework Diaries

Our new homework diaries went home today. We would love your feedback. We have parent teacher interviews coming up on the 24th and 25th of March - book your appointment early.

Week 6

Hi This week we have been busy focussing on addition and subtraction, and the language associated with equations. Here is a great little video to share with your children to assist with our learning.

Golden Shears

We had a wonderful trip to the Golden Shears. Here are some pictures. Our Alex had to speak over the loud speaker to the whole crowd - He was so brave!

Week Four

This week we have been focusing on addition in Maths - where we have been discussing counting on from our largest number and gaining an understanding of what an equation is. During topic, we have discussed how we can keep safe in the sun. On Friday during news we focused on answering questions about our favourite things like our favourite colours, our favourite vegetable, our favourite takeaway and what we like to do in the weekends. This week, we also made a good start on our personal portraits and they are looking good!!

Next week, we are visiting the Golden Shears - please ensure that all permission slips are returned as soon as possible. Also, we love creating in Room 19 so if you have any spare small boxes or old Christmas/Birthday cards we would love to have them.

Room 19

Week Three

Week Three already!!

We have experienced two shows this week - one from the Duffy Show where our own Ariaan was invited on stage and experienced surgery on her brain!! Our second show was a visit from Ronald McDonald, who was very funny with a special message about keeping ourselves safe when in cars and when biking. Miss Green received a special sock with eyes from Ronald.

We are now working hard on our reading, and our maths where we have been investigating "The Big Question" - come and have a look at our wall displays.

The weather has been very hot and we have been swimming most days - please ensure all children have their togs so they can enjoy our wonderful Lakeview pool.

Week One has been a great week where we have all got to know one another. Everyone has settled in and I have been made to feel very welcome at Lakeview School. We look forward another excellent week next week.

Welcome to Room 19's blog.
I am Francine Whitehead Room 19's new teacher. I am very excited to meet my students and their families. We are looking forward to an exciting year at Lakeview School. The pool is up and running, and the classrooms are all ready for our students.
